Wisdom Teeth Removal In Joliet And Ottawa

Do you do all four at once? What are your options?

When it comes to wisdom teeth removal, I have several recommendations for you. For the vast majority of patients, my recommendation is to remove all four wisdom teeth at the same time, even if only one is causing pain (interestingly, some people only have one, two, or three wisdom teeth).

There are several reasons for this, one of which is to eliminate the possibility of the other wisdom teeth causing problems in the future, and thereby eliminate the potential for more than on surgical procedure.

It is also more cost-effective to remove all wisdom teeth at once because there will only be one charge for sedation. Contrary to what many people believe, the removal of multiple wisdom teeth at once will not worsen the recovery process; there is essentially no difference between the recovery processes for the removal of one wisdom tooth and the removal of all four wisdom teeth.

When I make treatment recommendations for wisdom teeth removal, I educate the patient on the procedure itself as well as anesthesia and sedation options.

In doing so, I cover details about risks, simple preparatory steps, and recovery. I want people to fully consider all of this information and decide what is best for them. It is unusual for someone I evaluate to decide to forego treatment entirely, but it does happen from time to time. I am more than happy to give patients some time to think things over and get back to me with any questions they may have.

A critical part of my treatment philosophy is about focusing on each unique patient and arriving at a solution that is best suited for them. By definition, that individual has to be part of the treatment decision; I don’t want anyone to feel as though they’re being pushed into a decision.

That said, about 90 percent of patients feel comfortable enough with my recommendations to schedule surgery immediately, while the remaining 10 percent will want some time to consider their options.
